Abuja, Nigeria – Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to unite and confront Boko Haram and other terrorist groups threatening national security.
In a statement released on Sunday, Atiku expressed deep concern over the renewed wave of Boko Haram attacks in the North-East, which have resulted in the loss of lives, displacement of families, and destruction of property.
“The insecurity we face as a nation is a threat to all of us, regardless of our ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation. Boko Haram and similar terror groups have brought untold suffering to our people. Nigerians must rise with one voice to confront this evil and support all efforts aimed at restoring peace,” Atiku said.
Atiku urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to step up its counter-terrorism strategies by improving intelligence gathering, strengthening coordination among security agencies, and prioritizing the welfare of troops on the frontline.
He further emphasized that the fight against insurgency goes beyond military operations and requires addressing the root causes of extremism.
“Defeating Boko Haram requires more than military action. We must invest in education, create jobs, and empower communities to reduce vulnerability to radicalization,” he added.
Atiku also sent condolences to victims of recent attacks and urged religious and traditional leaders to promote tolerance and unity to counter extremist ideologies.
The former Vice President reiterated his commitment to a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria, urging citizens to support initiatives aimed at ending terrorism in Nigeria.
