BREAKING NEWS: Nigerian Troops Arrest Alleged Coordinator of Suicide Bombing Network in North-East

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have identified and arrested Shariff Umar, also known as Yusuf, who is alleged to be the key coordinator of a suicide bombing network responsible for recent attacks and attempted attacks in Nigeria’s North-East region.

Military sources confirmed that the suspect was apprehended during a targeted operation following intelligence-led surveillance aimed at dismantling terror cells operating within the region. Shariff Umar is believed to have played a central role in planning, coordinating, and deploying operatives for suicide attacks linked to insurgent activities.

According to the sources, preliminary investigations indicate that the network coordinated multiple incidents that resulted in civilian casualties and attempted strikes on security formations and public locations. The arrest is being described by the military as a major breakthrough in ongoing counterterrorism efforts.

The Nigerian Army said the operation forms part of sustained efforts by Operation Hadin Kai to degrade terrorist networks, disrupt logistics and recruitment channels, and restore lasting peace to the North-East.

Security officials disclosed that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation to uncover additional members of the network, funding sources, and operational links. Information obtained so far is expected to aid follow-up operations across several locations.

Military authorities reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible intelligence.

The arrest comes amid renewed efforts by Nigerian troops to intensify counterinsurgency operations against terrorist groups operating in the region.

Further details are expected to be released as investigations continue.
