BREAKING: Ekiti State Government Bans Graduation Ceremonies in Schools

The Ekiti State Government has announced an immediate ban on graduation ceremonies for pupils in kindergarten, nursery, primary, and secondary classes across both public and private schools in the state.

According to the directive, schools are no longer permitted to organize elaborate send-forth or graduation parties for pupils at any level, with the government stressing that such activities place unnecessary financial burdens on parents and distract from the core purpose of education.

The state government emphasized that academic transitions should be marked simply and formally within the school environment, without turning them into extravagant social events.

This policy affects all tiers of basic and secondary education in Ekiti, and authorities have warned that any school found violating the order will face strict sanctions.

The move has already sparked mixed reactions among parents, teachers, and education stakeholders. While some commend the government for discouraging what they consider wasteful practices, others argue that graduation ceremonies serve as a source of motivation and recognition for pupils.

More details are expected from the Ministry of Education on how schools should handle end-of-session activities going forward.
