Ogun Police Rescue 11 Ghanaians Allegedly Held Hostage Over Canada, Spain Visa Promises

The Ogun State Police Command has rescued 11 Ghanaian nationals allegedly held hostage in Sagamu, Ogun State, after they were reportedly lured to Nigeria with promises of securing Canadian and Spanish visas.

The victims, comprising seven males and four females, were rescued by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit following actionable intelligence received on October 19, 2026.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the operatives immediately mobilised to the suspected hideout after receiving the intelligence and successfully rescued all 11 victims.

“Acting on actionable intelligence received on 19 October 2026, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately mobilised to the identified hideout and safely rescued all eleven victims,” the statement said.

The incident has raised concerns over the alleged use of foreign travel and visa promises to lure unsuspecting individuals across borders, potentially exposing them to exploitation and other forms of criminal activity.

The rescue also highlights the importance of timely intelligence and police intervention in efforts to protect victims of suspected kidnapping and related offences.

The rescued Ghanaian nationals were reportedly found at the identified location in Sagamu, although further details about the circumstances surrounding their alleged detention, the identities of those responsible and the arrangements through which the victims were brought to Nigeria were not provided in the statement.

As of the time of this report, the police statement did not specify whether any suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.

Further details regarding the victims’ welfare, possible repatriation arrangements and the progress of investigations were also not immediately available.

The Ogun State Police Command is expected to provide additional information as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident progress.
